Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil loses a backer

jkta-11The Malaysian state of Sabah in the north of the island of Borneo has set a target for all crude palm oil produced in Sabah to be certified as sustainable according to the standards of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standards by 2025 and launched a 10-year implementation programme, one of the first jurisdictional commitments to sustainable palm oil production in the world. The southern part of Borneo, meanwhile, Indonesian Kalimantan, has seen rapid increases in area under cultivation and was the site of some of the most destructive and polluting fires of 2015, which covered the region in haze. Could a similar commitment to sustainable production be made in Kalimantan?
